Our favorite restaurants in NY & Princeton

Feb 18, 2001 Isabellas, on the corner of Columbus and 78th St. Great Italian food, but noisy. * * * * Feb 25:The Annex on Nassau St, Princeton. Long time favorite Italian restaurant. Started going there in 1953, my first graduate year. Still as good as ever. * * * * Mar 12 The Cottage, our local Chinese restaurant at 77th and Amsterdam. Favorite dishes: House Special bean curd and prawns in mustard sauce * * * * Mar 28 Miss Ellie's on 79th St between Broadway and Amsterdam. Bright and cheerful atrium, good plain food. * * * * Apr 28 Vatan, a three-course vegetarian prefix ($21.95) restaurant on 3rd Ave near 29th street. It's the NY version of an Indian restaurant chain, where you sit around a wooden table in a small wooden pavilion. * * * * May 20 Monaco Restaurant on 80th and Amsterdam Ave. Good salmon salad but very poor service. Lost my cowboy hat there. * * * * Jun 22 Good servings of gorgonzola at Baraonda, 2nd Ave at 75th st. Mary Laing and Dan Wheeler in attendance. * * * * Aug 3 Guastavino's Restaurant under the Queensboro Bridge at 2nd Ave and 59th st. Dinner under the soaring fluted columns of the Queensboro bridge. Wonderful spicy chicken and fish entrees, reasonable prices, taking into account the elegant surroundings. Dan Wheeler and Beryl Barr-Scarar as comnpanions. * * * * Dec 9 Evening 'tea' with Dick & Elizabeth Stone at the Finegan's Wake Irish Pub on First Ave and 73rd St. Lot's of Irish charm and inexpensive food and drink. I enjoyed the chili con carne and a salad.
